On empathy and it's importance moving forward
#21
Oh, I forget to add, Liberty, I don't know exactly how I feel about you.  You only pop in now and then.  But I can say, you are honest about it.

It is very true that constantly quoting everything they say harms the site in that it doesn't allow you to ignore. I don't have a habit of looking at who posted before I start reading. I'm just not made that way. All people are human beings to me and, as such, are in one way, equal. That's why I would never do as Jess suggested and treat conservatives, as a group, differently than I treat progressives.  I always start out giving people, no matter who, the benefit of the doubt. I believe these 3 nincompoops (or is it more now... hard to tell... or less.. maybe just 2 people with lots of names) IN REAL LIFE would be valuable human beings with other things about them that are worthwhile, and in real life, they'd do just like I do... they'd let it show even to those who don't believe the way I do on politics.

Heck, my own father and I were on opposite ends of the continuum, sometimes with both of our faces flat up against the endwalls of thought.... but we had a deep love and empathy toward each other. So there must be something redeemable about even a KKK member.

Oh , how the queen doth twist the words of others. You already do treat conservatives differently, evidenced by your use of the ignore feature.

Succinctly nailed it.  Hit it right on the head.  And that's how you handle my ramblin,' man.

I'm surprised that you went right into name-calling rather than just expressing your opinion.

At any rate: (your words)
"You know, we all have different skill sets when it comes to understanding the inter-workings of a forum.     It's not a judgement call toward another poster. I imagine the trolls on this forum would love to see some bickering amongst the "progs". Divide and conquer is their goal after all...."

Would you explain then what you did mean when you suggested, or so it seemed to me and still does, that I ignore lefties attacking me and everybody else constantly, but not ignore it when conservatives do it?

Also, I tried to explain that I'm not a group of either left or right here. I'm here to talk to everyone who doesn't call me names. I ignore people who do. I've got a few people currently on ignore. Just added one a day or so ago. As long as they are not attacking me or calling me names, I won't ignore. When it dips to that constantly, it's time to put it on ignore. As far as I know you've only called me a name this one time. You're not on ignore. But it did surprise me for you to do that. I see you as better than that.

If I don't answer when you talk to me or about me, that's likely because I have you on ignore.  Try to PM me. It won't let you PM me if I have you on ignore. There are other people, not members, who peruse this site. I want THEM to know why I don't reply to everyone who talks to or about me.

"It's not a judgement call toward another poster." pretty clear.
I know it felt like an attack to you because it came from Gern, but it wasn't.  You made it clear from the beginning that you resented her presence as if this were a competition. It's interesting that you only seem to have this reaction when it's another woman. My intent was not to suggest anything to you other than it was not a judgement call, but frustration from someone who really understands the workings of the forum. You turned it into an attack, and subsequently felt the need to bring it up again in a totally unrelated thread.
As long as you act as if you are the queen of the forum, I'll call you on it from here on out. I've ignored it long enough.

I don't know what's going on here, but I've never thought Desk thinks of herself as the queen of the forum, or anything like that.

And some people are just more comfortable when they're in a conflict with others - I dated somebody like that for a while.  It's not something I really understand, but I know it happens.

Jess, you totally misread my posts where Gern is concerned. She attacked me from almost the day she came here. The same way she's been attacking liberals lately for everything she thinks isn't the way she'd say things. Nobody is perfect. When she did it to me in my first week here I told her then that she could go fork herself. I'm not here to be one of her sheep, but to discuss politics and other things with people.

But lately I come in here and it's a long list of nothing but attacks of anybody who doesn't kiss her ass here.

As I said before, it gets old.

But I'll give you the last word on this and I won't respond because I think we've said it all by now.

That empathy thing just flew right out the window, didn't it?  Is it possible you misread my post initially, when all I was trying to do at the time was keep things peaceful? I don't need the last word, desk, I'm not competitive by nature. I've never had to compete with another woman and I don't plan on starting now.
