How a government shutdown could affect you
Desk asked about this, and I saw this today:

I'd like this post, but I don't really like the news.
If I were going wager on the over/under of a shutdown, damn skippy I'd lay the money on the shutdown. Trump loves him some chaos and a shutdown would have the dual affect (at least in Trump's feeble mind) of diverting attention away from Mueller's methodical demolition of the Trump crime syndicate. I believe that if a shutdown does occur it will be a prolonged one. With control of the congress and WH the Repubs will then justifiably be tarred and feathered by the Democrats. Not a happy scenario for the GOP.

I'm not ok with people deliberately causing suffering in order to play politics.

Gets us after the pedophile election. I think that's what they were aiming for.

As long as that Soc Sec check keeps coming in and that procedure I have to do next week eventually gets its medicare payment.  Looks like it's no fun working for the gubmint. Who cares about those people, right? Be nice if they made Trump go back to his Tower and take his family with him... and no security guards during the shirt down. But that's cuz I like to dream big.

Speaking of the medical procedure, here's something on that regarding Medicare and the terrible cost of healthcare these days.

Ever heard of a LOOP? It's a device like a pacemaker that goes under the skin. Takes 15 minutes to put it in. You don't go to sleep. But you do have to go to the hospital to get it done. It monitors and records your heart for afib, etc while it's in.

Guess how much it costs. Take a guess before reading further.

I asked the lady who scheduled it. What does something like this cost? $500?

She said, "Tens of thousands."

So then Medicare or your health insurance if it's BCBS tells the hospital that they MUST come down on that price. How far? I don't know. But I will assume they bring the cost down to one or two thousand. THEN Medicare pays 80% after you've paid $300 that year for a deductible. I haven't so I'll have to pay that too.

If it comes down to $2,000, then I pay $300 plus 20% of the $2,000 which is $400.

To have them stick a needle in that area of my chest to deaden it, then slit it and slip a Loop (very small recorder about an inch long and a fourth of an inch wide) under and sew it back up. Stick a bandaid (which may cost $200 if the things I hear are correct) on it and send me home.  $I'll pay $700 at the very least.  I do have another insurance but it's a $2,200 deductible and has never paid a dime for me in years and years of paying $75 a month for it. My company pays for it.

Now, consider a person at the bottom of the middle class. He makes just enough to live on if he lives extremely poorly. He lives from paycheck to paycheck. Any other costs beyond bare living has to be borrowed, but paying it even in increments to a credit card company is hard on the family so he has to find ways to make extra money, or they have to do without necessities. He could not, by any stretch of the imagination, pay $700 for this procedure. So he doesn't get this potentially life-saving procedure.

This is just one tiny little hint for why America's life expectancy is losing ground fast to other, more advanced countries with good healthcare systems.

Back on topic... this is the result of government hating people who only love the very wealthy. They treat them as if they're gods.

If I don't answer when you talk to me or about me, that's likely because I have you on ignore.  Try to PM me. It won't let you PM me if I have you on ignore. There are other people, not members, who peruse this site. I want THEM to know why I don't reply to everyone who talks to or about me.
